​The Wilmington Jewish Film Festival
May 1 - 4, 8 - 11, 2016
Mark your calendars for an exciting cinematic rite of spring! Eight days in May, May 1-4 and May 8-11, the 3rd Annual Wilmington Jewish Film Festival will screen 8 feature films— including internationally acclaimed documentaries, biopics, and historical and contemporary dramas—as well as shorts on both serious and comic subjects. Films screen at Thalian Hall Main Stage. Talks by film experts follow some screenings. Audiences will have more opportunities to share their thoughts and socialize at the receptions that follow all screenings. Click here for additional information.

May 5 - 8, 2016
An Exquisite Culinary Pairing Benefiting The Bellamy Mansion Museum & Local Animal Rescue Efforts. The Wilmington Wine & Food Festival brings together top area chefs with notable wines and wine makers from around the world to celebrate and advance public appreciation for great wine and food while giving to important local charities. Don’t miss these exciting events and the opportunity to sample hundreds of different wines and beers throughout the weekend paired with scrumptious bites from many of our best locally owned restaurants, caterers, and food trucks! Meet the chefs, wine makers, importers, and industry reps ready to share their knowledge and love for their craft. UNCW Graduation Weekend

27th Annual River to Sea Bike Ride
May 7, 2016 at 8AM
The 27th Annual River to Sea Bicycle Ride will take place on Saturday May 7, 2016. Participants will meet at Bailey’s Park at the 100 block of North Front Street in downtown Wilmington. Registration is free and will be from 8:00 - 8:20AM. During this time North Front Street between Market Street and Princess Street will be closed to automobile traffic for the registration process. Participants will depart Bailey’s Park promptly at 8:30AM. The ride, which is a slow-paced casual 20-mile round trip ride along the former Beach Car Line and back, will reach Wrightsville Beach Park at about 9:45AM. The ride is open to cyclists of all skill levels. For safety reasons, late arrivals will not be able to join the ride. Helmets are mandatory and riding is mostly on-road in mixed traffic. Police support will be provided along the way. Light refreshments will be available at Wrightsville Beach. Last year, about 250 bicyclists participated in the ride. T-shirts will be sold for $10, cash or check only. Click here for additional information.

Poplar Grove Plantation Kentucky Derby Party
May 7, 2016 from 4 - 8PM
On Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 4 – 8PM, Poplar Grove will hold its 3rd Annual Kentucky Derby Party to support our efforts in conservation, education and preservation and to help raise funds in support of our Animal Sanctuary. Join us under the tent, courtesy of L&L Tent and Party Rentals, and on the lawns for horseshoes, cornhole and super-sized Jenga. Show off those stylish hats, wet your whistle at our open bar, featuring Mint Juleps and Apple Martinis, and swing to the stomping sounds of The Phantom Playboys. Selections from The Beam Room will tempt your palette, including Shrimp & Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Carolina Bean Salad. Click here for additional information.














Rims on the River Car Show
May 20 - 22, 2016
Rims on the River is an annual event that takes place this year on May 20-22, 2016. The show is in Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Cars dating 1980 and older line the streets of the historic downtown area, with the Cape Fear River and the diverse collection of retail stores as their backdrop. This event has grown into a premier show, drawing a wide array of cars from the entire southeast region of the state, as well as a few neighboring states, totaling approximately 700 vehicles on display last year! As in previous years, we will be giving away trophies for various classes of cars and motorcycles. Click here for additional information.

Carolina Beach Street Arts Festival
May 21, 2016 from 10AM - 5PM
This festival is a celebration of the arts with a mission to provide, free to the public, the highest quality arts in many forms. The Festival’s objective is to increase appreciation, support and sales of art by involving the public in the creative process through demonstrations, hands-on-programs and access to art in different media. The Festival has three themes – Visual art, Performing art, and Culinary art, with a “main event” that involves selected artists and is interactive with the public. ​23rd Annual Seaside Soccer Classic
May 21 - 22, 2016
Welcome to the 23rd Annual Seaside Soccer Classic! Over 300 teams participated in the 22nd Annual Seaside Soccer Classic last year. Teams are strongly encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment, as we can only host a certain number of teams. Last May 2015 roughly 50 teams were placed on the waiting list. Teams traveled from all over North Carolina, as well as South Carolina and Virginia. This tournament is only open to USYS/Affiliate State Associations that play Challenge, Select, Classic and Premier Boys U10-U18 league play and USYS/Affiliate State Associations that play Challenge, Select, Classic and Premier Girls U10-U14 league play. May 28 - 29, 2016
The festival will take place at our namesake location on Orange Street between Front and 3rd streets, next to the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center and in front of the building on 2nd Street. Join us for the hottest annual street art fair of downtown Wilmington! Thalian Association Community Theatre is now accepting artist applications for Memorial Day Weekend 2016. Summer Fireworks by the Sea and Boardwalk Gazebo Music
Every Thursday, Beginning Memorial Day Weekend - September
Pleasure Island Summers 'officially' begin when the weekly fireworks kick off on Memorial Day Weekend. Then every Thursday, the beach strand on Pleasure Island lights up with weekly firewoks! The best place to view this weekly spectaular show is on the beach strand located in front of the Courtyard by Marriott or on the historic Carolina Beach Boardwalk, where there is music at the Gazebo stage for your enjoyment. So 'pack up' the family and head to the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach. The music starts at 6:30PM followed by the fireworks at 9PM.  Follow Facebook for weather delays, changes and updates.

Memorial Day Observance Aboard the USS North Carolina

On Memorial Day, May 30, 2016, at 5:45PM, people of all generations from across the State will gather together on the deck of the Battleship to pay their respects. This moving and meaningful ceremony includes military and patriotic musical arrangements featuring a military guest speaker, an all-service Color Guard, a 21-gun salute, and a memorial wreath cast onto the water. The Executive Director of the Battleship, Captain Terry A. Bragg and members of the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship Commission invite the public to this FREE event! The Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament would like to welcome all our sponsors, fishermen, participants, and spectators to this, our annual event. This year looks to be a great time to be had by all.
