Summer Fireworks By The Sea and Boardwalk Gazebo Music

Pleasure Island's Summer 'officially' begins when the weekly fireworks kick off on Memorial Day Weekend. Then every Thursday, the beach strand on Pleasure Island lights up with weekly fireworks! The best place to view this weekly spectacular show is on the beach strand located in front of the Courtyard by Marriott or on the historic Carolina Beach Boardwalk, where there is music at the Gazebo stage for your enjoyment. So 'pack up' the family and head to the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach. The music starts at 6:30 followed by the fireworks at 9:00. Follow Facebook for weather delays, changes and updates.

​Wahine Classic Surfing Competition
August 12 - 13, 2017
The Wahine Classic is a surfing competition for all levels of female surfers. From amateur to pro and experienced, there is a division for everyone! Plus, there is a Stand Up Paddleboard division and the Tiny Wahine event which is always a crowd favorite! The Sunday before Memorial Day something special happens on Pleasure Island - FREE Movies! Starting May 28th through September 3rd, vacationers as well as residents from Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wilmington grab their kids, blankets and beach chairs and head to the lake in Carolina Beach to enjoy a FREE Outdoor movie on a 'gigantic' screen! Movie goers can purchase cotton candy, popcorn, candy, soft drinks and much more. You can also bring your own food and beverages. Movies start at dusk. Click here for additional information.

Airlie’s 2017 Summer Concert Series begins May 19th and runs every 1st and 3rd Friday through September 15th. Concerts are from 6pm-8pm each scheduled evening, and are open to the general public. Wilmington Boat Show
September 8-10, 2017
The Port City is renowned as North Carolina’s most accessible coastal destination, nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. This coastal gem will now be home to the annual Wilmington Boat Show produced by JBM & Associates, producers of the Charleston and Savannah Boat Shows. The Wilmington Boat Show is the largest of its’ kind between Annapolis, Maryland and Tampa, Florida. This destination show will take place in several different venues including the Port City Marina, Pier 33, Wilmington Convention Center and across the Cape Fear River at Battleship NC Park. Pier-2-Pier Swim Race

The Pier-2-Pier Swim Race is an annual open water ocean swim race at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC and is hosted by the Cape Fear Aquatics Club and the Wilmington Family YMCA. The race course is approximately 2 miles between the Johnny Mercer and Crystal Piers (1.71 miles along the beach, plus the swim to and from the "dry" finish and start lines). Competition is open to all swimmers 11yrs old and up. Click here for additional information.
